Nikolai Maksyuta,
HEAD OF ADMINISTRATION OF THE VOLGOGRAD REGION
III Southern Federal District
Volgograd Region  £20
I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce our marvelous land, which has rich history and glorious traditions. The Volgograd Region is one of the largest industrial and agricultural regions of Russia’s South.  It’s a tract with unique nature, remarkable historical and cultural heritage, and a considerable resource base.

The Region has raw materials for various industries. Oil, natural gas, phosphorite, common salt, and mineral water deposits have been prospected and taken into development. As for the construction industry, it has access to carbonate strata, various sands, clays, sandstone, and macadam.

The basis of the regional economy is the huge enterprises in the chemicals,
fuel and energy, basic metals and fabricated metal products, machinery and
equipment industries, whose products are in great demand on the internal and external markets. The Region accounts for about 2% of the total Russian industrial output and over 28% of the industrial products of the Southern Federal District.

The Volgograd Region has a developed agricultural sector. As for the available
agricultural lands, our Region holds the third place among Russian regions
after the Altai Territory and the Orenburg Region. The soil and climatic conditions permit to increase the production of high-quality cereals on a yearly basis, as well as to increase the gross harvest of cereals in general. The people employed in the agricultural sector grow oil-bearing crops, gourds (including melons), vegetables and fruit. Pig, cattle and poultry farming are well developed. The Region even has an ostrich farm.

Major railroads, roads, waterways, and air routes cross the Volgograd Region.
The Lower Volga and Don Basins linked by the Volga–Don Shipping Canal create favorable conditions for transporting various freights through our Region fromEuropean countries to the navigable waterways of Africa, Near and Middle East.

However our people are our main wealth. We do our best to make sure
that every citizen of our Region be sure of his own future and the future of his
children and grandchildren!
