Russia: All Regions Trade and Investment Guide - a Project of the Council for Trade and Economic Cooperation (Russia - USA).

The investment appeal of the Ust-Ordynsky Buryatsky Autonomous District, primarily infrastructure-oriented, is determined by its convenient location: being close to the major traffic junctions, industrial centers of the Irkutsk Region, and border of China.
The Ust-Ordynsky Buryatsky Autonomous District is not a large industrial region with a high population density. Its economy is primarily agricultural with
grain cultivation and cattle breeding being the predominant activities due to the climate features. The District produces crops (including wheat and barley) and vegetables, and breeds dairy and beef cattle, as well as sheep including fine-fleece sheep.
The District is rich in forests – they cover around one million hectares, or
54.4% of the District’s land. Valuable coniferous species predominate (80%): pine, larch, fir, cedar, and Silver fir.
While the difficulties provoked by systemic changes in the country inevitably affected the District’s economy, we have managed nonetheless to maintain
and even increase the output in many sectors of our economy. The District’s
natural resources, including coal, oil, natural gas and gas condensate, clay, and gypsum, provide the prerequisites for achievement of the District’s industrial development goals.
This Guide will assist us to get to know each other and make ourselves known both in the country and abroad.
