Russia has always had a knack for adopting achievements of the world’s culture and economy, combining them and imparting new scale and quality to them. This ability is a unique quality of our people enabling Russia to overcome difficulties and hardships. It is our principal competitive advantage.
Reforms that are underway in Russia aim to establish a background for free
development of the rich potential Russia and its people have. A priority task for the Tver Regional administration is to enhance these processes at the regional level.
The Tver Region maintains stable relations with our foreign partners in all
fields, including research, education, healthcare, culture, business and tourism. Products manufactured by the leading regional companies are exported to over 50 countries worldwide.
The unique geographical location of the Tver Region determines multiple
features of its economy. The Region has a highly developed transport infrastructure: highways and a trunk railroad connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg cross the Region, along with the Moscow – Riga highway. Tver has the largest river port in the upper Volga, with freight terminals capable of handling river-sea class vessels. Tver also has an international airport.
The leading activities in the Region are electricity supply (with the Kalininskaya
Nuclear Power Station and Konakovskaya State District Power Station ranking
among the largest of their respective classes), chemicals and chemical products, wood processing and wood products, light industry, printing and publishing, and manufacture of machinery and equipment. Agriculture is another important sector, focusing on livestock breeding and growing of potatoes, rye, and flax. The Tver Region accounts for over 30% of all flax crops in Russia.
The upper reaches of the Volga River feature unique nature with thousands
of historic and cultural memorial places. The regional Administration therefore
pays special attention to tourism development in the Region.
