I am glad to introduce you the Tomsk Region, a territory that possesses obvious competitive advantages, such as raw material and intellectual resources. The Tomsk Region is situated in the south of West Siberia, extending for some 700 kilometers from the Altai foothills to the northern taiga. It is divided into two halves by the Ob, a major Siberian river, and is crossed by some 18,000 rivers and spotted with 6,000 lakes. The Tomsk Region is covered with forests for about 61%.
The capital of the Tomsk Region is Tomsk founded in 1604. Tomsk is also
the capital of education, research, and innovational business of Siberia.
The history of research and education in the Tomsk Region dates back to
1878, when the Imperial University was founded in Tomsk, then the capital city
of a large province of Russia. There are six state universities, two institutes, and 15 branches of non-resident higher educational institutions in Tomsk. Over 85,000 students study about 300 specialties. More than 20,000 are trained at professional colleges. One-fifth of all the people in Tomsk are students.
The Tomsk Region is one of the ten Russian regions that extract oil and natural gas in great volumes. Therefore the fuel industry accounts for a large share of the regional economy, over 50%; machine engineering accounts for some 11% of the regional economy, electricity supply accounts for 9%, and food products industry accounts for 9%. The Region is home to Russia’s largest petrochemical enterprise, the Tomsk Petrochemical Mill, which supplies polyethylene and polypropylene to European markets. The Siberian Chemical Mill, an enterprise of world significance, is situated in the Tomsk Region. The Mill cooperates with many major companies of the USA, the UK, France, and Germany.
At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries the Tomsk Region transformed
into a dynamically developing region, whose economy combines harmoniously the two strategic advantages, the raw material resources and the intellect. Developing transport communications, telecommunications, and international relations, the Region became a transit area on the way from Europe to Asia.
The Tomsk Region is known as a politically stable area. The stability is
based upon friendship among its 130 ethnic groups and 18 confessions and
its multi-party system.
The Tomsk Region has developed on a stable basis for several years. The
regional authorities seek to create a favorable investment climate. The Region
has passed a law on state support of investment activity, with various forms and mechanisms of such support.
I invite your cooperation!
