Magadan Region   £20
Nikolai Dudov,
GOVERNOR OF THE MAGADAN REGION
VII Far Eastern Federal District
The Magadan Region, also called Golden Kolyma, is one of the most
wonderful places in Russia. Everything is unique in this land - its history,
natural environment, resources, and most importantly, its people and relations between them, predetermined by our rigorous but bountiful land.

For the time of its existence as an administrative entity, the Region has accumulated vast economic potential. The OAO Kolyma Gold Refining Plant, the Explosive Plant, and mechanical repair plants service dozens of large and small gold mining companies.

In 2007 the gold-mining companies of the Region produced 15,747.1 kg of gold, 10% of the national output. Placer deposits and ore deposits of precious
metals are developed in the Region.

In recent years, the Magadan Region has constructed and launched several
specialized fish processing plants. For some years, fish and seafood represented the main exports of the Region (73% in 2006); it was only in 2007 that precious metals and precious metal products shot up with 57%.
Food and beverages, construction materials, wood processing, and wood
products are developing.

There are 25 groups of mineral water springs in the Region, with different
compositions of minerals in the water (mostly with chlorides, sodium and potassium).

The resort of Talaya functions, with its waters used for treatment of skin
diseases, nervous disorders, locomotor apparatus, cardiovascular system, and gynecologic diseases. The recreational potential of Talaya was appreciated as far back as in the Soviet times; at present the resort needs renovation.

Besides, the Region has opportunities for tourism development, including
extreme tourism (Alpine skiing, fishing, rafting), and anthropogenic tourism (visiting memorial places, such as former prison camps).

The Magadan Region has created conditions conducive to its economic development.  Since 1999, a Special Economic Zone regime in the Region has provided participants with extensive tax and customs privileges. This has considerably improved the Region’s investment appeal and given a new zest to the Region’s industrial development facilitated by investors from China, South Korea, Japan, Canada, and the USA.

We shall be happy to discuss the participation of foreign and Russian investors in the proposed investment projects.
