Komi Republic  £20
Vladimir Torlopov
HEAD OF THE KOMI REPUBLIC
II North-Western Federal District
Boasting diversified natural resources, a developed infrastructure, and excellent human resources, the Komi Republic is one of the wealthiest and most beautiful regions of Russian Federation.

The Republic has unique natural landscapes. The Yugyd Va (Clear Water) National Park, which occupies 1.891,700 hectares (5% of the Republic’s territory), is located on the western slopes of the Northern and Polar Urals. It is one of the most scenic places in Europe, where the nature has been preserved in its pristine beauty. Just as unique is the Pechora-Ilych State Natural Biosphere Preserve occupying a total area of 721,000 hectares (2% of the Republic’s territory).

The basis of the Republic’s natural wealth is formed by a number of minerals
that are unique in their quality and modes of occurrence. Today, the Republic
is one of the major fuel suppliers of Russia. It also boasts the largest reserves
of bauxites, titanium and barite ores, as well as considerable reserves of manganese and chromium ores.

The Republic also accounts for about 40% of all timber resources of the European part of Russia. Predominant tree species are fir tree, pine, and birch. Forest reserves are used by a wide range of industries, from logging to pulp, paper, and cardboard manufacture.

The main role in the Republic’s economy is played by industry, fuel and energy
being the largest industrial sector. Because of the harsh climate, the Republic’s agriculture aims at supplying the local consumer market with a focus on raising milk and meat cattle and vegetable farming.

The transport sector of the Republic includes practically all modern types
of transport (railways, inland water transport, roads, air transport, and pipe
lines). The pipeline transportation, however, plays the most important role in
the Republic’s economy.

Inhabitants of the Komi Republic have access to modern communication
media, including local, long-distance, and international phone calls, digital cellular communication, videoconferences etc.

Government of the Komi Republic considers streamlining investment process
as a key factor in increasing efficiency of the Republic’s economy, which should lead to higher quality of life of the Republic’s people.

The Republic is a region of a high investment potential. The Republic’s investment appeal is confirmed by the world’s leading rating agencies.
Our efforts to attract investments are mostly related to projects that are seeking
to update the Republic’s economy structure, with the accent on developing
Advanced processing enterprises in the wood-related and fuel-related industries, creating new production facilities in the mining industry, and improving our transport infrastructure.

The Komi Republic is an active player in the field of external economic activities. Besides external trade and attracting foreign investment, the Republic’s international relationships cover such areas as social development, ecology and culture.

We are open to everyone who is seeking efficient and fruitful cooperation.
