The Republic of Khakassia is one of the most economically advanced regions
of Siberia. Its industrial sector comprises non-ferrous metals, energy, fuel,
food and beverages, and machinery and equipment.
Khakassia is home to the Sayano-Shushenskaya Power System, the largest in Russia. A reasonable tariff policy and efforts to balance the interests of the Republic and the federal center have enabled us to develop energy-saving production facilities. The Republic hosts OAO Sayanogorsk Aluminum Plant – a part of the Russian Aluminum Holding (RUSAL).
There is growth in the investment sector. Conditions conducive to active
implementation of highly effective projects with short payback periods for
development of facilities for manufacturing competitive products are being
created in the Republic. Statistics is just one of many indicators of the above.
According to the Expert RA national rating agency, Khakassia ranked 29th in the Russian Federation as of the end of 2005 and 2006 for the investment risk, which is a substantial improvement (it ranked 68th in 2000).
Last year saw a considerable growth of small enterprise and individual business sectors. They now employ some 20% of the economically active population and account approximately for 15% of the Republic’s goods and services.
Khakassia is a unique region of the Russian Federation owing to its natural
resources. It is a wonderful combination of subsurface riches, unparalleled
landscapes, healing lakes, and diversified flora and fauna. The Republic is a great attraction for tourists and has its good market share in this sector among other regions of the Russian Federation.
We are very interested in efficient and, in the same time, careful use of
our resources, which makes the most promising investment projects even more attractive for potential investors. One of such projects is associated with the Gladenkaya alpine ski resort – a skiers’ favorite recreation place.
Khakassia’s territory is rightly considered an archeological Mecca of Siberia.
It has some 30,000 ancient historical sites such as rock carvings, ruins of ancient cities, defensive installations, and thousands of ancient burial sites.
One of the national policy priorities for the regional Government is to protect the original national traditions.
