Mustafa Batdiyev,
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KARACHAYEVO-CHERKESSIA
Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia £25

The Karachayevo-Cherkessian Autonomous Region was formed on
January 12, 1922. The Law of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist
Republic of July 3, 1991 reformed it, creating the Karachayevo- Cherkessian Soviet Socialist Republic within RSFSR. In December 1992 the name was changed to the Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia. The administrative
center of the Republic is Cherkessk.
The Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia is situated in the south-western part of the Russian Federation, at the foot of the white-topped Mount Elbrus.
Covering a total area of 14,277 square kilometers, the Republic is populated by 431,500 people representing over 80 different ethnic communities.
Karachayevo-Cherkessia has great economic potential and opportunities
for its intensive development. Its riches include not only mineral resources and
diverse flora and fauna, but also traditions, historic and cultural landmarks. We
are ready to share our natural and spiritual riches generously. The bowels of the earth harbor chalcopyrite and tungsten ores, copper, marble, coal, limestone, rock, sand, golden ores and placer gold here. There are also mineral springs of various types. The Republic’s mountain part is covered with vast forests, subalpine and alpine meadows.
Our favorable climatic conditions, fertile soils and commercial reserves of
many minerals played a vital part in determining the priorities of economy development. The Program for Economic and Social Development of the Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia through 2012 defines promising lines of development of the Republic’s economy. Over ten investment projects, including the development of the Dombay-Arkhyz Tourism and Recreation Center, construction of the Arkhyz Recreation, Sports and Treatment Center, development of small hydroelectric power stations and private power generation, etc. are of great interest to Russian and foreign investors.
I am glad to point out that the present day marks a dawn in the history of
the North Caucasus peoples, as peace in the region is undoubtedly a sine qua non for a favorable investment climate and the coming of investors into the Republic. Reasonable economic policy, a genuine road to success, will enable all the Russian regions to intensify their development.
We are open for mutually beneficial cooperation. I can but welcome both
Russian and foreign constructive business offers, which will contribute to the development and prosperity of the Republic and entire Russia when implemented.
