Kirsan Ilyumzhinov,
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KALMYKIA
III Southern Federal District
Republic of Kalmykia  £20
Kalmykia is becoming more and more attractive for Russian and foreign
businesses as an object of investment in different economic spheres. Suffice it to say that the Republic signed two large-scale agreements at the 11th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (June 2007) alone. According to one of the agreements, signed with the world-known oil company LUKOil, a gas processing plant will be built in the Republic having a capacity of 14 billion cubic meters and costing over $3 billion. The other was signed with the Falcon Capital, Czech Republic, and envisages the construction of a wind power station in the Republic having a capacity of 150 MW and involving an investment of over EUR 260 million.

The unique geographic location of the Republic of Kalmykia, which is situated
at the crossroads of the major north/south and east/west transportation
routes, the Republic’s considerable reserves of hydrocarbons and other minerals, its rich cattle breeding traditions, political and social stability, the unique culture of the Kalmyk people based on Buddhist religious tolerance and a denial of extremes, – all those are some of the factors that predetermine the favorable investment prospects of our Republic.

The Republic’s fuel and energy sector (represented, above all, by the export oriented oil industry), the agroindustrial sector, including beef cattle farming, and the construction sector are in the leading positions in the local economy.
The Republic of Kalmykia has enormous potential of producing competitive
organic agricultural products, including livestock products, for both internal
and external markets.

In the recent years much attention has been paid to dynamic development
of tourism. The only in the world City Chess, the largest Buddhist buildings in Europe, original Eastern architecture, multiple cultural memorials, unique nature, and sincere cordiality and goodwill of our people attracts more and more interest from all over Russia, as well as from abroad.

The Republic’s investment policy is focused on improving the investment
legislative framework and developing the infrastructure to attract investments,
creating optimum conditions conducive to business development, enhancing the Republic’s image on the internal and international arena, and participating in various international programs and projects.

As part of the diversification of its economy, Kalmykia is eager to create a
modern transport and logistic system, using its advantageous geographic location.

The Republic’s authorities and entrepreneurs have gained considerable experience in collaboration with major Russian and international companies and corporations. It is with confidence that we consider the Republic of Kalmykia a competent participant in the international economic activity open to constructive international business cooperation, to the implementation of boldest and most rewarding projects.

Welcome to Kalmykia!
