The Administration of the Astrakhan Region has set an ambitious goal
– to double the gross regional product by 2008, in line with the targets
of ensuring fast economic growth, improving the competitiveness of the national economy, and cutting the poverty level – targets set by the President and the Government of the Russian Federation. We consider ourselves
capable of achieving this goal.

The Astrakhan Region enjoys an advantageous geopolitical location, vast natural resources, as well as great industrial, scientific, technical, and intellectual potentials.

Located at the crossroad of ancient trade routes going from Europe to Asia,
with a developed transport infrastructure and diversified economy, the Region
has a great economy growth potential. It is ensured by increasing transit transport flow through the Region and gradual integration of the Region into the international North-South transport corridor linking India to the Northern Europe.

The Astrakhan Region is an important producer of agricultural products.
Our land generously contributes to the country’s wealth. Our black caviar, fish,
melons, vegetables, fruit, and salt are well-known both in Russia and abroad. The Caspian basin is a crucial fishing region of Russia, and the Astrakhan Region has the leading positions in sturgeon output and breeding.

Tourists from all over the world are attracted by the unique nature in the
Volga River Delta at the Caspian Sea.

Both the continental area of the Astrakhan Region and the adjoining waters
of the Caspian Sea contain large reserves of oil and gas. Those reserves are developed in cooperation with foreign companies. The Region also has deposits of salt, gypsum, brick and haydite clay, mortar and glass sand, as well as mineral and fresh groundwater resources.

All the above factors place the Astrakhan Region among the most promising
regions of Russia from the investment viewpoint. The Astrakhan Region’s governmental bodies, striving to double the gross regional product within the set time period, exert every effort to create the legal, infrastructural, and informational resources enabling the Region to attract investments, develop mechanisms of guaranteeing investors’ rights, and eliminate red-tape.
