The Altai Territory is one of the ten Russian regions with the largest agricultural production, and is the largest producer of grain, milk, and meat
in the Siberian Federal District. It has more tillage—and more land under
grain crops—than any other Russian region. Agriculture accounts for 19% of its GRP. But the Territory’s potential is not limited by that.

The Altai Territory enjoys an advantageous geographical location at the crossroads of transcontinental freight and passenger transit flows and in proximity to the major raw material and processing industry regions, which opens doors to its active participant in the inter-regional and international cooperation.

Development of mineral resource deposits and expansion of wood processing industry are the key areas of the Territory’s development (standing timber reserves are estimated at 600 million cubic meters). The Territory has reserves of table salt, soda, coal, nickel, cobalt, iron ore, and precious metals.
One complex metal ore deposit is currently being developed, and lignite mining has started. Explored mineral deposits have high industrial and strategic value.

Industry, which is one of the key sectors of the Territory’s economy, has
a good growth potential. The Altai Territory has unique scientific and industrial
resources for machine engineering, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
Rapidly growing sectors include food products and beverages, flour and cereals, forestry and wood processing, construction materials, as well as ferrous metals industry, which account for 20% of total exports of the Territory.

The Altai Territory accounts for a notable share of the country’s output of agricultural machinery, cargo railroad cars, coke, and boilers.

The Territory boasts a considerable scientific and innovative potential in the
following areas: lasers, electronic ionic plasma technologies, nanotechnologies and nano-materials, polymeric and composite materials, synthesis of medical preparations and food supplements, instrument making, medical equipment, production and processing of agricultural products, raising milk and meat cattle, energy-saving, and technologies of manufacturing of tractors and agricultural machinery.

The Altai Territory also possesses valuable resort and recreation resources.
The diversity of natural landscapes, availability of rivers and lakes, good climate, a wide variety of historical and cultural sites—all these factors help attracting considerable investments into to the Territory’s economy, especially if one takes into account the tourism and recreation special economic zone and the gambling zone that are being created in the Territory.

Our reputation as a world-level tourism area and a producer of ecologically pure food products is a part of our public image, and we do a lot of work in these areas.

Investment policy of the Altai Territory aims to create a maximally favorable
investment climate, including improving forms of state support for business,
development of infrastructure (transport and power networks, environmental
structures), strengthening of the economic position of the Territory in Russia
