The Republic of Adygeya was established in 1991. Adygeya’s rise to the status of a Republic within the Russian Federation has broadened its economic development opportunities, including direct contacts with Russian and foreign partners.
Adygeya’s investment appeal stems from its political and social stability, the legislative base guaranteeing protection of investor’s rights, qualified workforce, and, last but not least, the commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation on the part of the Republic’s authorities.
Being an agricultural region, Adygeya at the same time has serious potential for active development of its industry, above all, food and beverages and manufacturing.
Rich soils and a favorable climate enable the Republic to grow organic agricultural produce: wheat, sugar beet, sunflower seed, tobacco, vegetables, rice, watermelons, and tea. Market gardening, cattle breeding, poultry farming, beekeeping, and horse breeding all have good prospects for strong growth in the Republic.
The Republic’s geographic location and its second-to-none recreational and tourist resources are among its principal advantages, providing favorable conditions for sports and cultural/ environmental tourism.
The Great Azish and Dakhovskaya caves, the Khadzhokhsky canyon, the Bolshoy Rufabgo stream gorge, granite canyons, waterfalls, etc. attract enormous numbers of tourists. Our local mineral waters are recognized for their healing properties and have long been used in the treatment of a range of illnesses. The therapeutic mud deposits and karst caves of our Republic may be used for treatment of many kinds of respiratory illnesses.
The Belaya mountain river has become sort of a pilgrimage destination for white-water rafting. Its loud-pouring flood and icecold water cannot scare away true fans of extreme sports, and Adygeya now hosts the annual Inter Rally Belaya rafting competition.
The Republic’s mountains are covered with snow for seven months of the year and are ideal for beginners and expert mountaineers. Alpine skiing is a promising area for investment in view of the planned construction of the Maikop – Dagomys highway, which will link Adygeya’s mountain areas to the Black Sea coast near Sochi.
I have only described part of Adygeya’s background which suggests that tourism development must become a principal starting point for the Republic’s economic growth. We have just started developing this field, so the investors have broad opportunities to invest in this promising activity.
